The amount of knowledge workers confronted with flexible work processes and increasing complexity are rapidly growing. In todays knowledge society knowledge inside organizations is the most important resource and a sustainable competitive advantage. To cope with these challenges knowledge workers have to share their knowledge, collaborate and communicate with their colleagues effectivly across organizational boundaries.

Eine rein hierarchische Organisationsform ist dafür nicht geeignet. Die meisten Unternehmen haben heute daher eine umfassende Projektlandschaft, um diesen Defiziten entgegenzuwirken. Seitdem in den letzten Jahren viele Unternehmen soziale Medien eingeführt haben, besteht nun aktuell die größte Herausforderung darin, aktive und mehrwertschaffende Communities zu etablieren, die sich die Möglichkeiten solcher Werkzeuge zu Nutze machen und eine Steuerung des Wissensaustauschs ermöglichen. Moderne 2.0-Werkzeuge unterstützen den Aufbau und die Arbeit von Communities. Durch die standort- und organisationsübergreifende Vernetzung der Mitarbeiter(Aufbrechen der Wissenssilos) können Doppelarbeiten und Suchzeiten reduziert sowie Ideen generiert und zu Innovationen weiterentwickelt werden.
